It's time to stop waiting and start acting. There have been no updates on the status of the official FYZ website for quite some time, and I fear that we may hear nothing. So, as I suggested to John, I now suggest to the few people who have hung tight to the community: Let's rebuild FYZ from the ground up. New website, new forum, new goals.
Assuming you agree, here are some things to consider:
1. Keep the name? Now, I like the name Fight Year Zero, as "Year Zero" in my mind doesn't mean the exact "Year Zero" presented in the album that inspired us all to be here, it can mean anything. Everyone has their own personal "Year Zero", what they fear the world could turn into and what they want to fight against.
Now, the problem stems from "fightyearzero.org" and ".com" being registered. With those domains going unused, should we stick to our name and work our way around it? I believe "fightyearzero.net" or "fyz.net" is still available. If you think a name change is in order, what should the new name be?
2. New goals. I believe that, since FYZ came to be a place of political awareness and discussion rather than outright political activism, that the new website should focus on this. We can highlight current topics and write articles about them, showcasing different sides of arguments and what not, and of course, saying what we feel about them. Showing ways that things we don't agree with can be counteracted, encouraging action.
Do you agree with this? What do you think the new site should focus on?
3. Define our "organization". We are not a political group, we do not always agree on everything. We are like-minded, yes, but we have no distinct political messages that we all collectively agree to broadcast. We are not so much as an organization as we are a congregation of people who want to discuss politics and world events.
Now, I believe to reach a wider audience and progress from just being a handful of "crazy NIN fans", we need to distance ourselves from the ARG and AIR completely. I do like the name "Year Zero", and think it is appropriate as mentioned above, and I do think the AIR flag is awesome, but we cannot rely on creative marketing to provide us with something with which to symbolize ourselves. To attract other people, and grow the community, we must establish FYZ as a distinct creature from NIN fandom.
If you disagree with this idea, please let me know, as there is no reason to go along with any of this without the support of the community. If you do agree, then please use this thread for discussion regarding rebuilding and any concerns/questions/suggestions you have.
